Alric Arnett, He Can Make Catches With One Hand
He can catch the football using only one hand -- with ease -- as shown in this memorable moment from the Meineke Car Care Bowl (if one is enough, why waste the energy? -- ed.). I am sure the coaches think doing this is show-boating and arrogant and made him use two hands when catching the ball for the duration of the 2008 season. Though, with nothing to lose in the bowl game, he obviously decided it was showtime and he could deal with the punishment over the offseason and proceeded to style on the haters like so:
If I am correct, you might see similar eye-popping catches in 2009, if he is willing to put up with the coaches getting on his case for not using his fundamentals.

So I ask a serious question to those that are smarter than I
Do you think the aerial assault we saw at the Car Care Bowl are a sign of things to come?
i agree kind of
I am afraid with the OL inexperience, and mullen calling the shots we are not going to use our most dangerous weapon Noel enough and might not be proficient enough of a passing team to win, hopefully, that line of thinking is wrong and we are pretty much exactly balanced and dominate passing the ball, like the Car Care Bowl
Eternal Optimist The 25314 Weighs In
Might I remind everyone that the “explosive” offensive performace in the Tire Bowl – and I can’t emphasize that enough, the TIRE BOWL! – produced the same amount of yards we AVERAGED in ’06 and ’07, and produced 10 FEWER points than we AVERAGED in ’06 and ’07. We won the game by ONE point aganst a middling ACC – ACC! – team. We only scored 10 points in the last 47 minutes of the game.
True
But I think we all can admit we won’t have the same type of explosive offense we had back in 06 and 07. The Tire Bowl was probably the best offensive performance we had all year (against a Butch Davis led team) which is why I thought it seemed like such an “explosive” game. And you have to admit we threw more deep passes with completions in that game than probably 06, 07, and 08 seasons combined.
That same ‘07 offense that scored ONE touchdown against a VERY inferior Pitt team? I get your point, but I’ll sacrifce the 40-point blowouts against MAC teams for a balanced offense that won’t completely bog down when someone finally shuts down the run.

I don’t know boys….I am a little worried about our offense this year. Do we have the weapons to succeed? Yes. However, this is still going to be an offensive system that is going to be a MIX of the zone-read-option-running game and an aerial assault. Jarret Brown has a lot of potential but has yet to look really impressive to me.
The biggest concern I have is since PW is gone, that threat of the QB being able to break away is gone so teams won’t have to worry so much about that and can attack more up the middle. Our young OL, trying to do traditional pass blocking and also zone blocking, will probably struggle this year. JB is relatively fast but its not the same.
Instead of 80-yard TD runs by PW, I think we’ll see a lot more 20-yd runs by JB. And holy shit if JB gets injured this year, we are toast.
Arnet....
Speaking of Arnett, I just read in Mike Casazza’s WVU sports blog (Charleston Daily Mail) the following statement:
The stuff I’m hearing about Arnett in the offseason program would make you drool. Apparently he’s the fastest kid on the team now. That’s quite a title on that team.
I am extremely excited about our crop of WR’s, RB’s, TE’s, FB’s, etc on offense. I know a lot of this hype is “on paper” because a lot of these guys haven’t done anything yet, but I feel like the potential is there. Have we ever been this loaded, overall, at these positions?
