This Is The Coolest Thing Going
Courtney Paris's promise to repay her scholarship money if Oklahoma doesn't win the national title is the single coolest going right now, temporarily replacing The Snuggie and $8,000 tax credits on new home purchases. That's quite an accomplishment.
Oklahoma's Courtney Paris has not only guaranteed that the Sooners will win the NCAA women's basketball title, she's willing to put up her scholarship to back it up.
In a speech on senior night last week, Paris said that if the third-ranked Sooners don't win the title, she'll give back her scholarship money, valued at close to $64,000, according to a story in The Oklahoman.
"I have a passion for our fans and university, and I want to do something special," Paris said, according to The Oklahoman. "That's why I put my scholarship on the table. I meant what I said."
I don't care who you are, that's awesome. Means a lot more than simply guaranteeing a win and then sulking with your tail between your legs when it doesn't happen.

Girls can't play baseball either.
i just heard we have a new mountaineer. AND IT’S A GIRL!? That’s the most rediculous thing i have ever heard. I don’t care if it’s been done before or not. (Natali Tennate) Our MOUNTAINEER should be a large stature man, with a beard. I can’t believe this…
Does anyone else think this is a fucking travesty?
Honestly, I don’t see what the big deal is. I prefer that the Mountaineer be from WV, be of high character, be involved in the community, be able to pump up the crowd, and generally represent WVU and the State of West Virginia with pride and dignity. If the best person for that job—-as chosen by an established group of students, faculty, staff, etc.—-is a female, so be it. Yeah, I complained about the wimpy-looking Mountaineer we had in 2004-05, but anymore I care more about representing with class than about looking bearded and manly.

The beard
Why does the Mountaineer have to have one? The last time I checked, the statue in front of the Mountainlair doesn’t have a beard.

Because the statue was modeled after Jerry West who does not have a beard. However, the statue IS a man, and presumably has testicles. And the mascot HAS had a beard for decades. Why is the beard growing contest during Mountaineer week if “Montaineers” aren’t supposed to have beards.
More to come from The 25314…..
It's a good thing...
…that the real mountaineers who settled in what is now West Virginia weren’t all men, or none of us would be here.
25314...
thank you for backing me up on this. Can you talk some sense into these guys. I can’t believe you all are in favor of having a female Mountaineer! UNBELIEVABLE!

Just Curious
Why is this such a big deal to you? In the end, what difference does it REALLY make?

still curious....
because the first thing we are going to here is, bring on the “lady mountaineers”. you don’t see any other schools changing their mascots to women do you? i.e. spartans, cavaliers, cowboys, patriots, muskeeters, whatever….
if the girls teams want a woman mountaineer, that’s fine, but i don’t want one for the men.
Screw all that
This is the big news of the day:
