…was he even there? I didn’t see anything……OH!!! You meant the constant turnovers and stupid fouls.
(and yet I like the kid, and he IS only a college kid, but last night….WOW)

yeah, its all Ruoff’s fault…take Flowers out of the game and the rest of the team didn’t exactly light it up either….Huggins is a tough coach and if he likes him, so do I.

I love our freshmen! I realize we have at least two games left this year, BUT I can’t wait until next year. Two is about all we have left though.
Ru-off
I like the kid. It’s a bit unfair to take this past game completely out of context for him, however my overall sense of him this year is that his overall game is much better. He’s a more complete player, but he is less valuable to the overall team now than when he was a one dimensional player. You’ve got to have a 3 point shooter with a team lacking the inside size and that was supposed to be Alex. He transitioned his game to be a complete player apparently at the sacrifice of his shooting and that hurts our overall team capability.
Last night was terrible though
well put
some folks make a great sidekick, but can’t be the leader. He’s taken on the mantle of team leader, and perhaps shouldn’t have. let others bring it down the court now that they’ve got experience, and worry about your role.

Ironic how the rap all year is that he doesn’t play well in big games, and then he comes out with 0 points, 6 TO’s, and 4 fouls in the biggest game of the year. It has to be one of the worst senior day performances – all things considered (Gameday, #6 Louiville, the fact that he averages 16 points a game) in the history of College Basketball. I mean even freaking Duriel Price scored on his senior night.
WVU was winning 54-52 when he checked back in the game wih 4 minutes left, and with no one other than Ruoff touching the ball, and without getting the ball past halfcourt, UL was up 58-54 within 30 seconds.
Butler was the only press break all night, yet when Ruoff comes in, he decides to not give it to Butler. And immediately turns it over twice more. (And Butler is in a TERRIBLE shooting slump, and him making a few shots could have been the difference in the game.)
Huggins should have called a timeout when we had a possession down 3 with 2 minutes left and 3 timeouts left. We have proven over and that we cannot execute in pressure situations without timeouts. This led to another Ruoff airball on a 3.
Also, I did not want Huggs to put Ruoff back in the game with 4 min left cause the kid hadn’t played in like an hour. However, if I had been coach, I would have done the same thing. You have to play your senior and one of your “best players” with the game on the line no matter what and trust they won’t play like morons.
What am I missing about Ruoff’s personality that makes him so likeable to everyone?
not so much personality...
as it’s the “grittiness” and determination (usually) and the way he’s adapted to Huggy’s system, even if he has dissappeared at times. And no, I don’t like the poses to the students when he does hit a 3.
Ruoff
has been a good player as a Mountie and has been a role player for all 4 years. WVU will be seeded at 7 in the NCAA tourney, unless they lose the first round game to whoever they play in the BEAST tourney. Then, they’ll likely fall to 9 or 10. However, I don’t agree w/ these seeds as the BEAST is easily the strongest conference in the country and they’ll be as good as most 4 and 5 seeds.
Ruoff
Frankly we have no shooters. Period. Not since Pittsnogle and Gansey …We need muscle under the boards and speed on the outside…our passing was less crisp than the opposition and our overall decision making was a D+ , at least in the final 4 minutes.
Huggs will get it done with his own team and next season we will see a more polished and physical group take the court.

Ru-off
Underperformer in last night’s big game, end of story. Nevertheless, if we are to get anywhere in the tourney, Ruoff and Butler have to come up big. That’s the deal now, but next year opens up a whole new situation, and i cannot wait to see what this team can do in the next year or two.
Ruoff
What is there to say? He was awful. Terrible decision making both offensively and defensively. At one point I started to feel bad for the kid. But then I remembered all the times he preened around after making a meaninglessly three and that quickly faded away.
The more important thing to me is Saturday night closed out the Beilein era for me at the WVU Coliseum. Sure Butler and Smith will be back, but they are now Huggins type players. And I believe John Flowers transfers after this year. Goodbye, Johnny.
On the bright side, I was very, very impressed with Ebanks and Jones. They both showed great basketball IQ in getting to spots on the court that were open. Bryant on the other hand did nothing for me.
And a quick applause to 25314 for the Juice Price reference. I had thought of that on Saturday night too.
It's one night
Ruoff is getting slammed pretty hard here, unfairly from this viewpoint. Yes, he was hideous Sat. night. Words can’t describe how bad he was. And it wasn’t just the shooting, anyone can have a cold night. But everything else, ball handling, passing, fundamentals, were non-existent.
However, I’m willing to allow a bad night. The fact remains that Ruoff is the ‘eers best shooter, passer and ball handler. He is far and away their best decision maker with the best court vision. He’s learned to play solid defense. His ability to play the point has been a godsend in lieu of Maz injury and Bryant’s inconsistent-to-weak play.
I’m certainly not wiling to crucify the team’s best all-around player for one bad night.
It's the Tears!!!
Everyone is missing the real problem… Real men don’t cry at basketball games.
Look at the Cinci game.. Huggs weaps crocodile tears before the game and we lose in the ugliest fashion of the season.
On Saturday, Ruoff boo-hoos before the game and that was the last time he was seen in the Coliseum that night until he blew the game in the last 3 minutes.
It’s basketball karma…
"There's no crying in basketball!"
Add Adam Morrison to that list. Any other famous criers out there? I think Roy Williams almost let one slip on Hansbrough’s senior night, but avoided the tear, and the loss.
