Spring Has Sprung
Today marks the first of 15 spring practices for our Mountaineer football team. Spring practices will conclude with the completely irrelevant Gold-Blue Game on April 18.
This off-season brings with it a plethora of question. Who is going to fill in the gaps on the offensive line? Who will fill the holes left in the secondary? Most importantly, however, is the question of who, if anyone, will be a solid back-up at QB?
While the Gold-Blue Game may be irrelevant, I will inevitably be there and get excited about a certain player, only to be let down by midseason by his lack of performance. The only player to "step-up" in the Gold-Blue game and then live up to that hype the following season was, Owen Schmitt.

QB?
so we are seriously looking a Coley as a legit backup? Starks will most likely be the back up, but that’s going to take away from his reps at slot/wr. who else is in the mix for the back up spot?
QB will be extremely thin this spring but hopefully Mr. Smith will be able to step right in as JB’s back-up.

Owen, my hero
Seriously. Just seeing him mentioned in a blog cheers me up.
I’m thinking the guy we need to step up the most this year and improve isn’t Jarrett Brown, the O-line, or our cornerbacks. It’s Mullen, the O-coordinator.
Also, I’d forgotten that pass by Starks in the Colorado game. The high is gone….
I thought Starks is officially just a WR now
I remember this news because I remember thinking “Thank God” with regards to “the throw” in the Colorado game.
That is my understanding.
At his presser yesterday HCBS said that he does not want Starks throwing at all in spring ball. Wants him to get a ton of work at WR because he could be “big time.”
Oh my, I’m getting excited and there is still over 5 months until football season starts.

adendum...msn
Freshman Coley White took most of the reps behind Jarrett Brown at quarterback. Stewart said Bradley Starks will also get quarterback reps when his shoulder is 100 percent.

Where did you see that?
From everything I have seen Starks is not getting any reps at QB this spring.
From the Daily Mail:
WVU has only Jarrett Brown, Coley White and walk-on Josh DePasquale taking reps at quarterback, but Stewart said Starks would remain at receiver through the spring.
“He could throw right now, but we want to give him all spring and all the time he needs,” Stewart said. “He can pitch and catch later in the summer to keep sharp. Brad Starks can be a big-time receiver, I believe.”
