West Virginia Basketball Receives Five First-Place Votes, Picked To Finish 2nd In Conference

After never having been picked to finish higher than fifth in its history within the Big East Conference, the league's coaches picked WVU to finish second this year, just three votes shy of favorite Villanova. This voting included five of fifteen coaches picking the Mountaineers to finish first.
Think about what I just wrote: never, ever, have the Mountaineers been picked to finish better than fifth, yet this year we skyrocket to second (and damn near first). That should give you a quick synopsis of how meteoric the rise of WVU basketball has been under Bob Huggins.
Really, the sky is honestly the limit, which is a feeling that I have never felt in WVU basketball, or even football, before.

The sky is the limit
Thank you Coach Beilien for leaving. Beilien was a good coach, but let’s face it, he was never gonna win a national championship. His system is different, and works very well against teams that don’t often see it, which is why we won so many tournament games while he was here. But Bob Huggins is a top-notch college basketball coach. He’s won in places that never win before. He is a recruiting magician and one of the best defensive coaches ever. This guy is going to take us to the top some day very soon. Good to see us getting the respect this team deserves. Let’s just hope these kids can live up to their potential!

It's Time!
This year we put our stamp on the map of championship contenders. The Coliseum is going to be nuts for every game. It’s always tough for teams to beat us at home, the league is not as stacked as it usually is, all the cards are lining up. I’m looking forward to talking shit to these fools down here in ACC country!

Pre-season national rankings have not come out yet. However, Dick Vitale has us at #9 in his pre-season Top 40.
He also has Nova at 7, UConn at 10, Lousiville 12, Cuse 20, G’town 25, Pitt 36, ND 38. So, I’m not sure you are completely accurate in saying the Big East is not as stacked as usual cabincreekzeke. I think that once the cards settle on this season, you’ll see just as many Big East teams in the Top 10 and 25 as usual.

It's too early for the kool aid
Remember, we all thought these pundits were morons when they overlooked us every darn year.
Oh what the hell, once the games actually start (i.e., real games are discussed), pass the kool aid!

We miss Huggs
Good luck to the Mountaineers…our loss, your gain…we may never recover in hoops…but hell, now we’re a football power.
